About Us
In 2012, the International Commission for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (ICPA)Â approached Dr. Daniel Handysides, and his wife Sandra Handysides, with a request to modernize a successful but aging smoking cessation program. They have been responsible for the latest revision, and remain on the team continually updating the program and website to reflect the latest in research and best practices.
The original Breathe-Free program was over 30 years old and had proven quite successful. The goal was to strengthen the program with the latest finding and best practices. This second version of BreatheFree 2.0 is the subject matter of this website.
Dr. Handysides is currently the program director for the masters in Health Education at Loma Linda University School of Public Health.
He is a behavior change specialist, focusing his research on perceptions and their role in behavior outcomes.
Sandra is a board certified family nurse practitioner who brings the clinical side to this team, currently she is finishing a doctorate in preventive care. Besides tobacco, Sandra is interested in sedentary behavior.
